Mahout – The Great Elephant Walk is a feature documentary narrated by Stephen Fry. It follows the story of ex-London city worker, now eco-lodge owner Tim Edwards, who needs to relocate four Asian elephants and their mahouts between two national parks in southern Nepal.

Tim's Story

Tim discovers walking some of the largest land animals in existence across one of the most densely populated regions on Earth is no simple task. We follow Tim’s story and the expedition as they overcome teeming cities, searing heat, monsoon rains and untamed jungle.

Festivals

The film was well received in the press and festival run winning awards along the way. Mahout premiered at the London Independent Film Festival where it was awarded BEST UK FILM. The film has since been picked up by numerous broadcasters across the globe including Aljazeera, National Geographic US and the Discovery Channel. It surpassed our expectations and succeeded in bringing an important subject to the maximum audience demographic.

ELE Welfare

On top of the awards, Mahout also raised over $40,000 for elephant welfare charities via private screenings and photography exhibitions of James Dartnall’s photography from the trip. The film has also been used to support the recent movement against elephant back riding.

Mahout, our first feature produced in-house from development to completion ignited Pink Banana’s commitment to bring passion projects and important stories to a world-wide audience.
